The Ardeche Experience |

Dream Trails will deliver this one week course, based in the Ardeche region of France with its fantastic rivers, limestone gorges and beautiful scenery |

The course would be used as input for modules such as BDN Sports (Outdoor Adventure) and BND Public Services. |

· Skills for water-based outdoor and adventurous activities
· Outdoor and adventurous expedition

Outline of the Course |
|
| Pre-Work: |
Before attending the course, the students would complete some of the theory side to the modules. This would be delivered by your own staff using your existing assessment method or using our workbook once it has gone through your IV process. |
|
| Learning Outcomes to be Met: |
· Know different land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
· Know different water-based outdoor and adventurous actvities
· Know about a range of different expeditions
· Be able to plan expeditions

The last outcome is where the students looks at the planning of the trip and the two day descent of the Ardeche River in canoes, covering aspects of equipment and logistics, using their own research and information from us. |

| On the Course: |
| Students will be completing the following outcome which makes up the majority of the GLH for these modules. |

· Be able to undertake expeditions
· Review their planning and undertaking of expeditions
|

These will be achieved by the trip workbook/journal. This will be completed in the evening, allowing the student to reflect on the day. Or, it could be done by an expedition report to submit on return to college. |

· Be able to participate in land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
· Be able to participate in water-based outdoor and adventurous activities
· Know about personal skills development in land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
· Know about personal skills development in water-based outdoor and adventurous activities

These will be achieved by practical sessions where the students will do two land and two water based activities, including rock climbing, hill walking, canoeing and kayaking, with the possibility of bouldering and sailing. With a variety of terrain, we can run a course to fit in with any prior skills set that your students have, e.g. lead climbing or play boating. |

Health and safety will be embedded throughout the courses and students will be able to document their findings regarding risk assesment in the trip workbooks. |

| When: |
This course can be run all year round, but we recommend during April and May. This allows students time to do fundraising and contribute to the trip, and has the advantage of better weather for camping for that expedition experience. |
|
We can also help to deliver adventure for other modules, as a day's experience or residential, based in the UK or France, provide NGB awards as additional courses or using adventure for enrichment |
